The dream of a hope and a future

Clackmannanshire is a place where dreaming can feel hard. Our county has its struggles – 27% of our children live in poverty. Resources have been stretched by loss of industry, unemployment, austerity and health inequality.

As Christ-followers we hang on to hope.

We dream of growing our inclusive and counter-cultural family of God, rooted in the good news of Jesus, lives transformed in the Spirit.

We dare to dream that our neighbourhoods can be transformed into places where…

  • our children thrive and flourish
  • our teenagers have aspirations
  • our elderly are cared for and included.
  • no-one struggles to heat their home or goes to bed hungry
  • debts and addictions are broken
  • creativity grows, where music and art are made, where joy is felt
Since 1893 Tilly Baptist Church has been at the heart of our town, believing that God, in his kindness and grace, has big dreams for our church and community.

We want to honour the gospel presence, legacy and dreams of previous generations. We desire to serve God’s purposes in this generation and beyond.

It’s not about a church building, it’s all about building a church.

A squash and a squeeze

God has been blessing Tilly Baptist Church in amazing ways over the last few years. As we’ve trusted God for increase, we’ve seen considerable growth and are literally ‘bursting at the seams’ – it’s a wonderful problem to have, but it is a challenge!

Despite moving to a two service model on Sunday mornings, we are now almost reaching maximum capacity.

We need more flexible spaces for our growing number of well needed community projects like the food larder, family meals, better accessibility and room to gather people of all ages.

The problem is, there is little to no room to grow.

The amazing gift

As we prayed and sought God for the answers to these problems, an amazing gift was offered to us.

Step outside our current building, and look across the High Street, and you will see a lovely – and larger – old building; for almost 200 years the home of the Congregational Church. This family of God have a rich history of faith and worship in Tillicoultry.

Our Congregational friends approached us and offered their building, as long as it would continue as a place of worship. Could this be the answer to our prayers? God’s plan to  see our dreams grow and increase the gospel influence in our town?

We prayed, fasted and sought unity for many months. Over time, the Spirit led us to a real sense that this was indeed God’s dream for us, and we gladly accepted this wonderful gift.

Tilly Baptist | Hillside

While the Hillside building is beautiful, she is well over 100 now, and this lovely old girl needs to be upgraded both inside and out to become all that she can be.

The next stages of planning for our Hillside Building have began and we are working with an amazing team of architects.

And let’s be honest, to make this audacious dream a reality we are going to need some serious financial investment.

Perhaps you find yourself as excited about this wild dream as we are. Maybe you, like us, dare to believe that this wee town, in a wee county, has a big hope and bright future in our great and gracious God who says:

“ With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

Matthew 19:26

We would love you to prayerfully consider joining us!
